activity holidays    rambling and walking the Axarquía, Andalucía
"We used the convenient location of Cútar to explore and make the most of the mountains and coast. We walked around the spectacular
El Chorro gorge, the serrated and pillared limestone of El Torcal, the hills around Cómpeta and behind Nerja .
Summiting La Maroma was a highpoint of our trip"  Jude South Gloucestershire

Mount Maroma at dawn. The mountain can be seen from all our properties. It is half as high again as Ben Nevis and is entirely walkable. It is a 40 minute drive and an 8 hour walk up and back. There are less strenuous walks around the mountain with spectacular views!

The Hilltop village of Comares is a couple of hours walk from Cutar by means of Roman and Moorish tracks

The village of Cútar from the mountain track. A fifteen minute walk to the ridge yeilds a fine view of Cútar and the neighbouring villages of El Borge and Almáchar
“There are great hiking trails that will take you to other nearby villages. My husband and I love just hiking to the top of the closest range (about 30 minutes), eating almonds picked from trees on the way and sitting at the top with a book (maybe a cold beer). You can see the Mediterranean from the ridge”     M&M Guelph, Ontario

Clifftop walks in the coastal natural park east of Maro. 40 minute drive
"One of my favourites things was dropping down the hillside onto the dry river bed which either takes you on an easy stroll down to the nearest small town, or up into the wilder boulder-strewn reaches"
Nicko - Bristol
