How to Get to Cutar via Almachar from the airport
From the Airport .
On leaving the car park, follow the airport approach road. After a small roundabout, move to the left hand lane. This will take you over a bridge and onto the main N340 eastbound dual carriageway – follow the signs towards MALAGA.
After 2 kilometres, filter right for RONDA DE MALAGA, MOTRIL and ANTEQUERRA and join the E-15/N340. Continue along this motorway, following signs for RONDA de MALAGA, MOTRIL and ANTEQUERRA.
From the motorway
•
You will then see signs for ALMERIA. Follow the signs for ALMERIA and continue along the motorway in this direction until you see the exit sign for RICON de la VICTORIA, BENAGALBON AND ALMACHAR. Leave the motorway at this exit.
•
Do not take the road that goes back under the motorway to the left, but follow the slip road right and you will come to a new roundabout in about 50 metres .
•
You need to take a left turn here, towards BENAGALBON.
•
NB there is a sign for Almachar at this junction, but you may not notice it at first because it is a decorative sign with green grapes on a blue background. It says Almachar- capital de la Pasa Moscatel y del Ajoblanco. Do look out for it and learn to recognise it, as many signs for Almachar in the area look like this.
•
Now you simply follow the road. The drive from here to Almachar takes about 25 mins, and you will pass the villages of Benagablon and Moclinejo to your right, in a long steep climb. The road is bendy but well surfaced. If you find yourself leading an impatient car, you might wish to signal, pull over and let it pass. If you are nervous of oncoming traffic, slow down and pull over while it passes. There is plenty of room for two vehicles to pass throughout the entire road.
•
You will know you have reached Almachar when, finally descending a long steep hill you see the village above you and to your right and you come across a spectacular fountain in the middle of a roundabout. It has a big bunch of grapes in the middle of it. If you have booked the Casa, turn right here, up the hill into the “Paseo Axarquia” the top car park. Phone us and we’ll meet you there.
From Almachar to Cutar
If you are going to Cutar,
•
Cross the roundabout leaving a large flat civic area with a big tent to your right, and continue your descent. You will come to a bridge crossing a dry river bed
•
Cross the bridge of the dry river bed and go left at the T junction towards El Borge. Be careful on this corner particularly of traffic coming fast to your left.
•
Ascend the hill. In a couple of minutes approach El Borge and leave it to your left. Be careful of the ascent round the village, which is narrow
•
Keep going. After about 10 minutes see the bishop’s hat sign with CUTAR written on it. Cutar church can be seen to your left. DO NOT TURN LEFT!
•
Continue down the hill, ignoring the next left turn, until it seems that you are leaving the village you your left. Go round a bend and see a bus station and another bishop’s hat sign. Just there is a hairpin bend to your left. Take this and descend into the village car park. The road is relatively gentle and curves round into the main car park at the bottom of the village. We will meet you there.
